Art portfolio 2020 ver.
About me
I'm a 21 year old artist based in the Portland, Oregon area. I've been doing art since childhood but started experimenting with different mediums in 2013. Since then, I have experimented with 4H-6B pencils, ink, house interior paint, gouache, clay, paper mache, and digital art. I'm mostly familiar and comfortable with acrylic and watercolor. In 2019, I started exploring multimedia and working on bigger canvases. I plan to continue to expand my techniques, mediums, and materials overtime.I am attending university and majoring in English. I have created this portfolio to organize my creative outlet although I do not plan to pursue art in a professional form. Enjoy your stay and thank you for visiting!xx Sunny

graduation
SPRING 2020
DIMENSIONS: 14 1/2" x 22"Inspired by the 1995 film created by Japanese director, Hayao Miyazaki, Whisper of the Heart. Due to not having a graduation ceremony, I painted one of my favorite films on my gown. I wanted this piece to embody my hopes and dreams for the future but still be simplistic.

ponyo
WINTER 2020
DIMENSIONS: 10" x 14"Requested and gifted to a friend. Inspired by the 2008 film created by Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki, Ponyo. I personalized the original screencap by adding Rilakkuma and changing the bowls. I continued to sketch the characters in my style.

spotlight
WINTER 2020
DIMENSIONS: 20" x 12"Turned in for an assignment. The prompt was spotlight and I wanted my piece to be relatable. The empty stool resembles a platform that everybody has access to, being able to place anything on top and directly in the spotlight.

Castle in the sky
WINTER 2020
DIMENSIONS: 7" x 10"Inspired by the 1986 film created by Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki, Castle in the Sky. The shading of the scenery and style of the character's facial structure are based off of the style I'm devloping.

III. potato chips
AUTUMN 2019
DIMENSIONS: 10" x 7"Final part of the trilogy: So Blue.
All three parts of the trilogy are inspired by photos I've personally taken. I focused on the shadows of the clouds and the way light would bend through them. I explored different shapes and sizes of clouds.

II. sunflowers
AUTUMN 2019
DIMENSIONS: 10" x 7"Second part of the trilogy: So Blue.
All three parts of the trilogy are inspired by photos I've personally taken. I was gifted a bouquet of sunflowers earlier this spring and wanted to treasure the flowers, even after they've wilted. I wanted to emphasize the contrast in the sky as the sun was setting and make the bright bouquet the focal point.

i. in the clouds
AUTUMN 2019
DIMENSIONS: 10" x 7"First part of the trilogy: So Blue.
All three parts of the trilogy are inspired by photos I've personally taken. The original picture was photographed from the plane as I was leaving Cambodia after my month stay. I wanted to capture the rice fields and green plains of my motherland, emphasizing on the darken river that runs in between.

sunnyville
SPRING 2020
DIMENSIONS: 13 1/2" X 9 1/2"Inspired by my villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. I heavily focused on keeping the original design of each character while drawing them in the style I'm developing.

White twee fwogs
SPRING 2020
DIMENSIONS: 7" x 10"Precious white tree frogs that are painted different hues of green. Messy sketch done with black ink then shaded and colored with watercolor.

PEACH
AUTUMN 2019
DIMENSIONS: 10" X 7"A single ripe peach. I used softer brush strokes in order to make the fruit appear almost fuzzy-like and explored the color range of a peach.
